CFGI Webcast: Immigration Changes in Australia and New Zealand

On May 24, CFGI recorded a webcast with Fragomen Worldwide, the global immigration resource for our 2017 Symposium. Jane Goddard, Client Services Director, Teresa Liu, co-managing partner for the Australia-New Zealand Practice, and Sally Lisle, Practice Leader of the New Zealand office, discussed reforms impacting Australia’s 457 temporary visa program and permanent visa categories as well as New Zealand’s efforts to control immigration numbers through changes to the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) and the Essential Skills Work Visa.

Highlights include:

  • Costs for managing immigration compliance in Australia will increase due to a new Training Levy and higher filing fees.
  • Australian immigration processes will take longer because of new application requirements.
  • New Zealand will change the points structure for the SMC and introduce salary thresholds.
