“Employers overwhelmingly support mandatory use of E-Verify, the government’s electronic employment eligibility verification system, according to a new survey by the Society for Human Resource Management and its affiliate, the Council for Global Immigration.

“The backing for E-Verify comes as the Trump administration begins a crackdown on illegal immigration. The White House’s fiscal year 2018 federal budget proposal includes funding to support mandatory use of E-Verify.

“The SHRM survey, conducted in late March, found that 83% of employers either ‘strongly’ or ‘somewhat’ would support a mandatory electronic verification system.

“The use of E-Verify is already mandatory for federal contractors and subcontractors, and 21 states and localities require the use of E-Verify for some or all employers.”
