Employers W​elcome White House Commitment to Improve Visa Processing, Employment-Based Immigration


Washington, D.C. – The Council for Global Immigration (CFGI) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) welcome a new White House report on visa modernization, including proposed improvements to the employment-based immigration system such as greater access to green cards and a Known Employer Pilot program.

“We are encouraged to see the Administration committing to new approaches to improving the system, especially the Known Employer Pilot,” said Lynn Shotwell, Executive Director of CFGI. “We look forward to working with the White House and key agencies in the months ahead to make sure these changes are implemented in ways that deliver benefits for employers, employees and the entire economy.”

"We applaud the White House for issuing this report at a time when the U.S. employment-based immigration system continues to hinder the ability of employers to grow and contribute even more to the economy,” said Shotwell. “Our members continuously cite long visa processing times and delays that cause uncertainty as major challenges when making business decisions, and the recommendations included in this report are a step in the right direction toward improving this outdated system.”

The report, “Modernizing and Streamlining Our Legal Immigration System for the 21st Century,” includes concepts CFGI and SHRM have long advocated – from improving the issuance of green cards to PERM modernization to other processing efficiencies. Of note, the Known Employer Pilot program draws upon key concepts CFGI and SHRM have called for over the years, such as pre-certifying qualified employers with a proven track record of immigration compliance.

“We are encouraged by these developments, and we urge the President and Congress to work together on broader, meaningful reforms for employment-based immigration,” said Shotwell.
