State of the Union and Republican Response Display Bipartisan Interest in Immigration Reform As A Priority This Year

ACIP and SHRM Applaud Focus on Issue Critical to U.S. Workforce and Economic Growth

Washington, D.C. – The American Council on International Personnel (ACIP) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) released the following statement applauding President Obama for emphasizing the need for comprehensive immigration reform this year during his annual address to the nation:

We applaud President Obama’s continued push to achieve comprehensive immigration reform this year. As we have long advocated, and as the President recognized tonight, America needs a top-flight workforce to lead in the modern, global economy, and reform of the immigration system for highly educated top world talent is part of the solution.

We urge the President and Congress to work together to create a U.S. immigration system that works for America with bipartisan reforms that allow critical top talent to continue contributing to U.S. growth, that ensure a secure federal electronic employment verification system and that increase efficiency through a Trusted Employer program.

ACIP and SHRM further commend Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), another leader on immigration, for his support for reforming America’s outdated immigration system during his response to the State of the Union.
